I love "Project Runway." So when "The Fashion Show," a similar show about young fashion designers came on as a new Bravo series, I had no interest. I don't know why. Maybe I'm just tired of these competitive shows about chefs ("Top Chef," "The Next Food Network Star," "Chopped") and fashion and design ("Top Design" and the aforementioned "Project Runway").
Then I get an e-mail from my colleague Chris Johnson, who allegedly turned over a new leaf and is calling himself, "the New Chris."
He said the winner of "The Fashion Show," one Anna McCraney, has roots in his hometown of Oglethorpe, Ga.
"... just thought it was interesting that Anna McCraney, who won some fashion-design show called, of all things 'The Fashion Show' on Bravo, won the competition last night. Anna's a family friend from way back. I've known her since she was a little girl. Her dad grew up in Oglethorpe and her grandmother lived across the street from me.
"Ha! I have connections in the world of fashion!"
Ha! Yourself, New Chris.
In case you're wondering why he's e-mailing me when he sits not 10 feet from me, Friday is his day off.
I e-mailed him back, asking for Anna's phone number so I can do a story on her.
"She's been in New York a good while. But I'll e-mail her cousin, who teaches English down in Chile, and see if she can get me the number. I'm sure she's getting a lot of calls right now. Maybe I could talk to her and get her to assess my fashion sense."
So about now, I'm thinking, neither Old nor New Chris knows this girl. I mean, what kind of lame thing is it that he has to contact someone in South America?!
I went to the Bravo site to look up Anna and found out that she claims Atlanta as her hometown. I had thought that she grew up with Chris in Oglethorpe. And I e-mailed him and told him what I thought of people who grew up around here and claim that they're from Atlanta. I also teased him about the Chile thing. You know, how he had to go through someone in Chile to get this girl's phone number!
"Anna grew up in Atlanta. Her dad was very rich good buddies with Ted Turner. But her mom is from Oglethorpe and her grandmother lived across the street from me. I remember going through the Montezuma Hardee's in their Jag. That'll get you some looks. And the girl in Chile grew up down the street and recently confessed her childhood crush on me, so I'll play that card!! :)"
I'm not going to hold my breath about getting Anna McCraney's number from my colleague Chris Johnson. Even though he's the New Chris, he's still being hateful to my Chipper. OK, so Chipper doesn't like him, either. I guess they're even.
