Last up, it's Lil Rounds, singing "The Rose." Tarantino tells her to commit to both halves of the song equally.
Will the coveted last-singer spot save Lil? Nope. From the get-go, it seems like she's trying way too hard to belt her way through a song that designed to slow tempo. She redeems herself with some decent traces of gospel midway through, but the whole thing just seems too exaggerated. It's hard to love a makeshift R&B melody when she could just as easily have opted for the real thing. "The Bodyguard," anyone?
Never miss a local story.
Paula: "Sometimes the road is really long, but it's a road worth taking." What is she talking about???
Simon: "I think that you're getting this completely wrong...You are not the artist I believe we met seven or eight weeks ago."
Lil tries to argue her case, but we're already past the 9 p.m. mark.
