Troy Heard is the artistic director of the Chattahoochee Shakespeare Co. For two seasons, he's presented his shows at the Liberty Theatre. Now, the Liberty is a nice place, but Troy had to schedule his shows around the Liberty's own season and rental dates.
So he was really excited to get his own space in Mark Lucas' old art studio, 1242 Broadway.
When he got in there, he found the space needed lots of work. So he went to work right away, cleaning the space.
John Teeples has donated a lot of work to bring the building up to code. It needed new bathrooms, improved electrical wiring and the biggest job, heating and air. And with the temperatures and humidity levels as high as they've been lately, you know how important the AC is.
Right now, Troy needs $7,000 to finish everything. With "The Rocky Horror Show" opening July 23, he's doing a couple of fundraisers.
The first is at 2 p.m. Sunday in the median of the 1200 block of Broadway, in front of his theater. Troy's original children's show, "Goobers!," will be featured.
It's free, but donations will be accepted.
So pack up blankets and lawn chairs and ge the kids in the car and head downtown on Sunday. The kids will love the show, and so will you.
Call Troy at 702-423-6366 if you have any questions.
