By total coincidence, I watched the original "A Nightmare on Elm Street" last night for the first time (it's practically a crime it took me so long), the same night the remake opened at midnight.
Though apparently "remake" is now a dirty word in Hollywood (maybe because they've been doing it so much lately?), so words such as "reinvention" are being tossed around.
I'm quite familiar with Robert Englund's infamous character Freddy Krueger, as are most people who don't live under a rock. I totally rooted for him when he faced off against Jason Voorhees.
He's got an evil sense of humor and a highly stylized wardrobe.
Jackie Earle Haley (Rorschach from "Watchmen") takes on the role and, according to critics, the entire film has a darker feel to it. Freddy has less of a comedic bent.
Visually, I think Haley is a good fit to play Freddy. But critics are also saying it's a waste of his talent.
Weigh in: will you see the new "Nightmare"? What do you think of Haley as Freddy?
