Jack White is old-school - he likes to make his music about the music and pretty much nothing else.
So this Rolling Stone article that quotes him bad-mouthing technology and the Internet isn't surprising. He sounds a bit condescending because, as many of the commenters point out, he's making lots of money.
i do think it's admirable that he wants his projects to work from the ground up. But in this day and age, someone with White's notoriety cannot expect to escape the limelight. I personally think the Internet is irrelevant. If he wanted to play six-months worth of shows with Dead Weather to feel things out, good for him. Even without the 'Net people would have heard and spread the word after a week.
But he's not the only one who feels that advancements in technology are hurting musical integrity.
Elton John thinks the Internet is bad for music too.
Technology has made everything more complicated. Yes, I do believe it would be wonderful to go back to a simpler time, but there are pros and cons to everything.
