Has fourth judge Kara DioGuardi disrupted the flow of "American Idol"?
Yes, Paula Abdul says in this interview. An excerpt:
"It takes up so much time for each of us to give our opinion that it slows down the pace of the show," she says.
I feel crazy by association for agreeing with Paula, but she might be right. Even in this article, where Simon Cowell complains how last week's performance show fell flat, he says the judges' critiques went on way too long.
I think with the right person, the four-judge lineup could really enhance AI's popularity. But the current panel - with the possible exception of Simon - seems to just repeat each other's comments.
And like Paula, Kara at times seems much too enthusiastic in her praise.
Was expanding the judging panel a mistake? If so, is the problem Kara, or the mere concept of a fourth judge?
