Title quote by Paul McCartney
When I was in high school, my friend and I inadvertently discovered a cool record store in the next town over called Seven Dead Arson. We were relatively young (and stupid - you know how that goes), but the vibe of the place was awesome.
There was hardly even anyone else in there and they had shows in the basement.
It didn't last too long - they inexplicably packed up to move to Washington, D.C. But I remember rifling through their used CDs looking for Nirvana and Alice in Chains albums. Good times.
An article from USA Today talking about Record Store Day reminded me of that place. It always smelled kind of old and smoky. I felt like I was the most un-cool person there, but just being there was cool in and of itself.
Very High Fidelity.
Anyway, there are events scheduled all over the country for tomorrow, special CD and DVD releases and store appearances by artists ranging from Chris Cornell to Erykah Badu.
Here are participating stores in Georgia. None in Columbus (surprised?), but Atlanta and Athens and that area.
Here's a link for the Alabama side.
And at the off chance anyone in my home state is reading, here are participants in Illinois. Mostly in the Chicago area, but Toad Hall Book and Records in Rockford is a great store for music and books. So if you're in that area, go!
