Here's dueling pianos player Matt Giraud, who sings Coldplay's "Viva La Vida." Sans piano.
It's definitely weird seeing him take the stage sans instrument, and when he relies on vocals alone, he's kind of weak. He seems breathless at times. He's obviously better suited for the slow, bluesy ballads. He also makes pretty weird faces while singing.
Never miss a local story.
More than anything, he's hurt by song choice. It's a selection that doesn't do too much to separate him vocally, except for a couple nice high notes at the end.
Kara: "I'm just not blown away."
Paula: "I don't know if it was the right song to pick."
Simon: "It was verging on a horrible performance."
Randy: "Chris (Martin of Coldplay) wouldn't be singing Ray Charles. You can."
Matt then says he picked the song because ultimately, that's the kind of artist he wants to be. Simon's not happy.
