Are we entering a celebrity Twitter backlash?
First the social networking site very publicly loses Miley Cyrus and now they're in danger of another hot topic deleting her account.
Megan McCain, daughter of Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona), has recently threatened to quit Twitter after a photo she posted of herself created a wave of controversy.
The photo in question is below:
I mean, she is showing quite a bit of cleavage. But for people to call her nasty names (which, according to some of her Tweets, they have been) is pretty unnecessary, though probably has little to do with the photo itself and more to do with McCain in general.
She says she was simply illustrating what a nerd she is for staying in at night with a book and take out.
I generally like Meghan - on a very surface level. She can be kind of dumb sometimes, which can be counterintuitive to her political activism. But I have two things to say about this:
1) Just because you don't party every night and like to stay home and read every now and then does not make you a nerd. Or maybe I'm just a nerd and am in denial. Because I would MUCH rather stay in and read than go out and party. But regardless I think it's a good thing she reads. Not enough people do that these days.
2) There's no way she could have looked at this picture and thought, "Well, I don't look that sexy." Whether she was trying or not, it's a sexy picture. People will react.
That being said, I'm sure she won't delete her Twitter and I'm sure this will blow over. But she cannot expect to be taken seriously as a political pundit while simultaneously posting pictures like this on the Internet without a second thought.
