EXIT INTERVIEW: KATELYN EPPERLY
Were the judges too hard on her? She said they were tough, but perhaps it was due to the experience level she had coming into the show. "They maybe expected more out of me than what I was giving them."
Her most memorable moment was performing "The Scientist." "It's a very touching, riveting song," she said, adding the tune had helped her deal with things in her personal life.
She was best friends with Lilly Scott throughout the show. "It was kind of ironic that we both got eliminated on the same day." She also said she was close with Crystal Bowersox. The three got along well, which Katelyn said is rare because she doesn't typically have female friends.
She said she didn't expect to get along with everyone on AI so well. Initially, she expected a bunch of divas. That didn't happen.
Katelyn praised Lilly extensively, saying that she was extremely surprised to see her go. She wishes all the top 12 finalists well, but is especially rooting for Crystal. "She is a genuinely good, true person," she said.
She doesn't listen to mainstream music and doesn't typically perform covers. She said she's divided on whether AI should allow artists to perform original tunes. "I definitely think it would be a cool twist to bring to the show," she said.
What's next? She's going back to Des Moines, Iowa, and will continue to pursue music. She's getting together with one of her favorite acts: a band called Lovedrug. (This might be their MySpace.)
"I really hope that my fans and supporters continue to follow my work," she said.
