I've said for years that if we can't get a Whole Foods here in Columbus, I'd like The Fresh Market to come.
Well, it's finally happened. The Fresh Market opened yesterday. And I was there at 7:30 a.m.
Yeah, for some reason, The Fresh Market PR people thought it would be good to give media tours at 7:30 a.m. Since the store was going to open at 9 a.m., I thought I'd have to be there for a couple of hours to talk to shoppers.
Fortunately, people saw the lights on, the doors open and people walking in and out, so shoppers starting coming in around 8 a.m.
So I got to talk to everyone I needed to and left around 9:05 a.m. There was a line from the door down the sidewalk to PetSmart. People really, really wantedd this store.
It's gorgeous. It has a full bakery, a full-service meat counter with a butcher on duty and very, very fresh seafood. There's a huge selection of organic food, produce and products. The best part? The ready-to-serve food. It really looks yummy.
I know I can't afford to shop for everything there, but I'll be there to buy some specialty items that no other grocery store has in town.
If you haven't gone, it's in the old Goody's location on Bradley Park Drive, between Michael's and PetSmart.
It's open 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday.
