The 2010 Emmy Awards didn't disappoint. Jimmy Fallon was hilarious as host, and the jokes told at his expense (thanks Neil Patrick Harris) were even funnier.
The show's pace was fast, and I wasn't bored. Either I'm getting old or the show is getting better. Plus, there were a few surprise winners who made the show worth watching.
ABC's "Modern Family" won Best Comedy Series over Fox's "Glee" and Best Reality Show went to "Top Chef" instead of "The Amazing Race," which has won every year except this one.
Sure, there were some typical winners — Al Pacino for Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie for his work on "You Don't Know Jack" and "Mad Men" won Drama Series — but, over all I was surprised.
Some of my favorite moments:
Most endearing audience member: Temple Grandin stood and waved at the crowd as the movie based on her life as an autistic woman won several major categories including Made for TV Movie, Best Actress in a Miniseries or Movie (Claire Danes), Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie (David Straithaim) and Supporting Actress in a Movie or a Miniseries (Julia Ormond).
Stickiest scene: Jimmy Fallon and Tina Fay being "slushied" by Jane Lynch of "Glee."
Left out: I'm sure fans of "Lost" are mad because the strangely popular show failed to win an Emmy in its final season, but I'm more disappointed that Julia Louis-Dreyfus didn't win for the now-canceled "The New Adventures of Old Christine." The show never really got the credit it deserved.
Most surprised winners: Edie Falco — no stranger to Emmy wins thanks to "The Sopranos" — won Best Actress/Drama for "Nurse Jackie" and Jim Parsons won Best Actor/Comedy for "The Big Bang Theory." Funny and modest? What a winning combination.
Best display of girl power: Kyra Sedgwick's Best Actress/Drama win for TNT's "The Closer." On the show, Sedgwick plays a deputy police chief who practically reads the minds of criminals to solve difficult cases.
Funniest tribute: Jimmy Fallon's musical number to honor shows that ended in 2010 including "Lost" and "24."
