I'm a sucker for that thick, creamy green bean casserole recipe that's printed on the back of every tub of French's Fried Onions.
I know there are much healthier versions with fresh vegetables, but I'm afraid if I suggested one, my family would start a revolt. We love our tradition of dumping canned foods into a casserole dish, popping it in the oven and then diving into the ultimate comfort food. There are never any leftovers.
After reading Paula Deen's recipe here, I'm tempted to try this instead. It's got the cream of mushroom soup and fried onions but it also has fresh onions, mushrooms, cheddar cheese and, of course, Paula's favorite ingredient: butter.
Here are a couple more recipes: This one includes sour cream and crackers. And here's one for vegetarians.
