Who would have thought that Joe "you lie" Wilson's outburst would take up this much time?
But, since it's Washington, you can't ever just do something quickly and move on with it. So, here we go on the merry-go-round of parlimentarianism and meaningless censures.
First, let's take a moment to address whether Obama was lying. Naturally, the liberal media keeps on putting out lines such as this:
The Democratic proposals on health explicitly prohibit spending any federal money to help illegal immigrants get health care.
Socialists. Fox News had a much better story after Wilson's outburst, which was all about how Obama was lying and that Democrats scrambled after the speech to rewrite the bill.
That gets a nod in the above linked story:
Still, Republicans say the legislation needs stronger citizenship verification to ensure illegal immigrants are excluded.
After the uproar, Senate Democrats said last week they were negotiating stronger verification requirements to be included in the bill.
So, Obama wasn't lying but Democrats are making sure their i's are dotted and t's crossed? Fair enough, but it still doesn't mean Wilson should have shouted.
Regardless of what you think, yelling at the president during a speech isn't kosher. Read all the bills you want, scream in the Internets until your fingers bleed, but try to maintain some dignity.
And if you could finish up your censure and move onto bigger and more important business in just a few days, that'd be just dandy.
