I was at the Village Kitchen of Lewis Jones, 1328 13th St., today with our videographer/photographer Joe Paull. We were there filming our Chef's/Cook's Corner segments. Village Kitchen director Susan Gilliam set up four Cooking with Kids segments. She did two with 12-year-old Davis Dodelin. Then Kelly Cargill, who does cooking demonstrations with Susan, did the other two segments with her, son, Sam, who is also 12.
They all did a great job with the recipes. You'll be able to see the videos and read the stories in the Life & Taste section starting June 9.
The Village Kitchen began life as Columbus Cooks, which later moved to the Bradley Park Drive area. The owner and founder, Becky Catrett, sold it and moved to Montana. Unfortunately for foodies in Columbus, the store closed last year. You can find the Riverside Galleria there now.
While the Village Kitchen doesn't sell cooking products, gadgets and food like Columbus Cooks did, it does feature cooking classes.
There's one tomorrow night (Thursday, May 27).
This one features Chef Helen Hamlett Gamble. She was a personal chef in Columbus for years and now makes her living doing cooking demonstrations.
Her menu sounds scrumptious. She's making a Proseco strawberry cooler, grilled dates with Manchego pancetta drizzled with thyme honey grilled baby artichokes, arugula, fava beans, cheese curls with lemon vinaigrette and grilled red curry turkey tenderloin.
As always, space is limited. The class begins at 6:30 p.m. It costs $50.
Call 706-507-7676 as soon as you can if you want to go to the class.
