Wednesday’s only matchup in intramural basketball between undefeated teams turned into a blowout as the 75th Ranger Regiment defeated the 4th Ranger Training Battalion 67-48.
Pat Barnes led the 75th with 23 points while Brett Roberson had 15 points and David Lee had 12. Lee’s outside shot worked well the entire game as all of his points came from four 3-point field goals.
“The other team played a zone, so there were a lot of open spots on the floor,” Lee said.
The game started as a back-and-forth affair early, but aggressive defense combined with an impatient 4th RTB offense led to favorable turnovers for the 75th.
Never miss a local story.
“They were missing shots early, so we were able to get the rebounds and convert them into layups,” Lee said.Once the 75th had jumped out to a 19-12 lead in the first half it continued to build on executing in transition and taking high percentage shots from the perimeter.
“It’s like they say in basketball, ‘guys have their nights,’ and tonight we had our night,” team captain Bryan Pratt said. “It was really guys setting up in perfect positions.”
The 4th RTB were not able to narrow the gap in the second half as 75th continued to play opportunistically on defense, coming up with steals even late in the game.
“We played a 1-2-1 and it definitely worked out for us,” Pratt said. “We stuck with it the whole time. It was working. We had guys going to the right places.”
Jacob Lewis led 4th RTB in scoring while David Harris and Thomas Clowdus each scored nine points.
