I read this morning that Maria Schneider had died. Best known for her starring role in "Last Tango in Paris" with Marlon Brando, she was 58. That's scary because that's my age.
I'm sure it's totally coincidental, but MGM just sent me an e-mail saying the Blu-ray debut of the film will be Feb. 15, along with "Moonstruck" and "Rainman."
MGM called the three "classics." I'm not sure about that, but OK. The release also said between the three movies, they were nominated for 16 Academy Awards.
Back "Last Tango in Paris." It was rated X when it came out because of some sex scenes. My parents wouldn't let me see it, and when I was old enough, I just wasn't interested.
I love the quote that was attributed to Schneider about the sex scenes. She said something like she'd never take off her clothes again for a middle-aged man who said it's for art. I think she was 20 at the time the movie was filmed.
Will I buy the Blu-ray? Maybe. Maybe not. The other two movies ... I'm really not crazy about Cher (who won the Best Actress Oscar) and I thought she was overrated in that movie. I'm not a fan of Tom Cruise. And though Dustin Hoffman, who won the Best Actor Oscar, was great in "Rainman," I'm not sure I want to buy that one either.
In case you want to buy the movies, the suggest retail prices are $19.99 each.
