Dawn's Dish received the following question from an avid blog stalker about McDonald's famed Shamrock Shake.
Dear Dawn’s Dish,
Can you write a blog post to console your readers who have heard Shamrock Shakes are already appearing in McDonald’s locations across the country? Alas, the official Shamrock Shake finder reports no sightings in the Columbus area.
Perhaps you can offer some Shamrock Shake recipes so we can copy the real deal at home. I’m sure our Facebook friends would be very interested in this, too.
Never miss a local story.
Thanks in advance for your consideration. I look forward to stalking your blog in hopes of receiving a response.
Dawn's Dish shares this reader's sadness that Columbus McDonald's restaurants have yet to start serving the Shamrock Shake. Hopefully, we'll see this creamy concoction on the menu before St. Patrick's Day (March 17). In the mean time, Dawn's Dish is happy to offer the following copycat recipe. What makes the Shamrock Shake stand out from a regular vanilla shake is its minty flavor and light green color. Here's a basic shake recipe with a minty addition.
Dawn's Shamrock Shake
4 cups good quality vanilla ice cream
2 1/2 cups milk
1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
Green food coloring
Blend ice cream, milk and mint extract in a blender until desired shake consistency is achieved. Add green food coloring two drops at a time until desired color is reached. Pour into two chilled glasses. Serves two.
If you have dairy allergies or sensitivities, you can still enjoy a shamrock shake. Check out this recipe that uses soy milk and soy ice cream.
