The Vortex is supposed to have the best burgers in Atlanta, plus its got a really fun biker/rocker vibe. There are two locations in Atlanta, one in Little Five Points, which is the one we went to Saturday and the entrance is a giant skull, and one in Midtown.
We got there a little after noon and there was a line out the door. The wait was only about 20 minutes. We got beers and waiting in the bar area. The home brew of The Vortex is Laughing Skull Amber Ale. It's pretty tasty.
Adam from Man vs. Food ate the Double Bypass Burger: a half-pound sirloin patty topped with two fried eggs, six slices of American cheese and eight slices of bacon served between two grilled cheese sandwiches instead of a bun.
Never miss a local story.
This is what my husband ordered. And he ate it all, including the fries it came with, and washed it all down with two beers. I didn't doubt he could finish it because he's the kind of guy who follows through with things he sets out to do. However, I was pretty surprised at how good he was feeling afterwards. Needless to say, that meal served as both lunch and dinner.
For the record, there is one larger burger that The Vortex serves: The Super-Stack Heart Attack Burger. It consists of two half-pound sirloin patties sandwiched between three grilled cheese sandwiches, topped with two fried eggs, eight slices of American cheese and ten slices of bacon. It's served with a side of cheese-covered fries and tots.
I opted for a more "normal" burger with Cajun spices and topped with red peppers. The food was good, the price wasn't bad and the atmosphere was fun. It's definitely a place I'd return to.
