FROM STAFF REPORTS
One week into the Southern Indoor Football League season and Columbus Lions defensive back Damian Daniels has assumed his spot among the league’s best defensive players.
Daniels’ two-interception performance on Saturday in the Lions’ season-opening 67-20 victory against the Alabama Hammers earned him SIFL Defensive Player of the Week honors. Daniels is no stranger to these sorts of awards as he won several last season in the SIFL and has been the overall Defensive Player of the Year three times in three different leagues.
Abilene Ruff Riders quarterback Joe Brannen was named the SIFL Offensive Player of the Week, and Albany Panthers kicker Wes Vergilio and Trenton Steel kicker Craig Camay were named co-SIFL Special Teams Players of the Week.
Never miss a local story.
The Lions (1-0) host the Richmond Raiders (1-0) at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Civic Center.
