Big Ore Mill Set At Georgetown
The State Department of Commerce announced today that an unidentified firm will invest $100 million within the next 18 to 24 months to open up iron mining in Southwest Georgia.
The plant will be built in Quitman County, at Georgetown on the Chattahoochee River, and it and the associated industries should employ about 5,000 persons within two years.

Consolidation of city and county governing bodies into one government “representative of all people residing in Muscogee County” has been recommended by the Muscogee County Grand Jury.
It suggested that this be done gradually, by stages, beginning in 1962, and that complete consolidation be accomplished “prior to the date of area determination established by the 1970 census.”
