As the renovation to Building 4 wraps up and personnel prepare to reoccupy the tower, G-2 wants people to remember proper security procedures while moving classified documents.
Security requires year-round awareness, said Brady Stewart, Security Division chief for G-2.Before the move, inventory all sensitive items and make sure containers and transportation devices are General Service Administration certified, he said.
“If you don’t need it, destroy it,” Stewart said. “The more you have, the more of a possibility of unauthorized disclosure, loss, any of those things.”
Either have items taken to the proper places to be archived or contact G-2 for assistance with destroying items, he said. During the move, know where everything is at all times, security specialist Debbie Kearns said.
Individuals who have contracted out responsibility for moving classified items still need to maintain accountability for making sure the material is moved securely, she said.
Kearns said after everything has been moved to Building 4, another inventory should be made. If anything is missing, contact your security manager and G-2 within 24 hours.
Many issues can be prevented if individuals plan ahead and start early.
“Early preparation could prevent big problems.” Kearns said.
If there are any questions or concerns, the G-2 is willing to assist, Stewart said. For help with technical assistance regarding moving preparation or to receive assistance in properly destroying information, call Stewart at 706-545-9355.
