Current economic times didn’t affect the spirit of donors this year during the Combined Federal Campaign. Contributions were almost $880,000 this year, said Laura Walker, Fort Benning CFC manager.
Quality contact was 100 percent, she said, and that included the two newest brigades — the Armor School’s 316th Cavalry Brigade and 194th Armored Brigade.
“I really think that we had some fantastic volunteer campaigns this year that brought the message to Fort Benning,” Walker said. “I’m so grateful and I couldn’t do it without them. Without these volunteers the campaigns could not run and the charities would not get the benefit of donations without the volunteers.”
Melinda Robba, CFC project manager for the Directorate of Human Resources and one of five to receive the CFC Leadership Award for 2011, said she was honored (by the award) and pleased with how well the directorate had done this year with donations. Robba has been project manager since 2005.
Never miss a local story.
“It’s outstanding,” she said. “The (key persons) do a really, really great in job in making quality contact, and the personnel assigned to DHR are really big in giving. Our donations were the highest they’ve ever been we have some giving people.”
Walker said donors are the most important people and the reason CFC has been so successful.
“I thank them sincerely for taking the time out of their busy schedules to support the causes that they believe in and sparing a bit of their money to help (charities) continue their good work. Without the donors, we would have no campaign,” Walker said. “It enables these agencies to continue their work for the next year every donation that we can give them is greatly appreciated.”
The CFC gives federal employees the opportunity to donate to charities of their choice. The program, created 50 years ago by President John F. Kennedy, has raised millions of dollars since its creation, according to the CFC website. In 2010, CFC raised more than $281.5 million for charities around the world.
