Sometimes on the party scene, you just need to believe.
Believe in finding the perfect match. Believe you hold a special place in your favorite bartender's heart. Believe your dance moves are unique and amazing.
Those nightlife ideals came to mind after I saw an act on this weekend's music lineup: Thomas Wynn & The Believers.
Here's some information on that show, as well as some other nightlife highlights. See other options on the music list that accompanies this column.
Thomas Wynn & The Believers at The Loft
The Florida act takes the stage Saturday at the downtown Columbus hot spot at 1032 Broadway. Expect "rugged, yet uplifting spirited rock, sprinkled with Southern soul R&B."
Band members in Thomas Wynn & The Believers include the brother-sister team of Thomas and Olivia Wynn. Their father was the drummer for Southern rock act Cowboy.
The band has shared the stage with musicians like Leon Russell and Charlie Daniels.
Cover charge is $10 for the comedy show from 8-9:30 p.m. (reservations recommended), $5 for 9:30 p.m.-1:30 a.m. Music starts at 9:45 p.m. 706-596-8141.
Busy Friday downtown
Soul Proprietors perform at Friday's free outdoor concert 7-10 p.m. on Broadway in downtown Columbus. Also on Friday, there's a Miss Georgia 5K Pajama Run/Walk downtown that includes live music and benefits the Children's Miracle Network and Miss Georgia Scholarship Fund.
The race begins at 11:30 p.m. at the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts. Music starts earlier in the night.
You can register at Big Dog Running Company at 1104 Broadway for $20 before Friday. Race day registration is $30.
Fun at Illusions
The Columbus hot spot at 6499 Veterans Parkway hosts some intriguing parties this weekend. Get ready for "Flirtatious Friday" and "Mars versus Venus" Saturday. Both nights have a Facebook promotion that involves special perks. Hit Facebook for more details.
Update on Sammy's Hideaway
I recently told you about Sammy's Hideaway, the hot spot that will occupy the space formerly known as the Shanty Shack (4475 Warm Springs Road). The venue now has a Facebook page, so check that page for updates on the grand opening.
