As we were discussing how we could represent fashion for July, naturally, the 4th of July came to mind, and of course, dressing for the patriotic holiday. We agreed that a classic, all-American, girl-next-door look was required. American icon Marilyn Monroe became our inspiration. We knew it was fate when we learned the date of the photo shoot June 1st, would have been Marilyn Monroe's birthday.
Channeling Marilyn Monroe, our beautiful model Barbara Braswell did her own hair and makeup. She's a stylist at D'Allen Salon in Columbus. She's also a bartender at Ben's Chophouse, so stop by for a drink and tell her how great she looks in the July 2012 issue of Her magazine!
The Gap is the perfect store for classic American wardrobe staples. We found clean-cut lines with a three-quarter length sleeve mini dress. Strips in navy blue and white made the mini dress perfectly fit our fashion shoot.
Marilyn Monroe once said, "Diamonds are a girls best friend." We needed to put the finishing touches on 'our Marilyn' so we stopped by River Road Pharmacy and Gifts. They helped with all of the jewelry and accessories we used in our photo shoot at Country's on Broadway. The barbecue joint's 'old fashioned' setting served as an ideal backdrop. We just had to incorporate Barbara's '89 VW ragtop, "Little Red," into the shoot, too.
Never miss a local story.
