Is a record deal in the works for seventh-place "American Idol" contestant Colton Dixon?
When I asked Colton about a potential record deal Thursday, he gave few details. "Something is coming up. I'll just leave it at that," he said via phone, adding that he expects to have an album out by the end of the year.
I chatted with Colton for an advance story about the "Idol" tour, which stops in the Atlanta area Aug. 5. The Tennessee singer has the distinction of performing an original song on tour, just like last year's ninth-place finisher Pia Toscano. My full story will run soon in print, but here are some highlights to tide you over in the meantime.
On Mariah Carey joining the "Idol" judges' panel: "I think that's a great move on 'American Idol.' I'm really excited to see who else they'll bring along."
Who would he add to the panel? "Billy Joel. That would just be awesome."
On the role faith plays in his music: "I'm a musician who loves Jesus...I don't want to alienate anybody."
Would he ever cover a Lady Gaga song again? "Who knows? I probably wouldn't go after 'Judas.'"
