What do her readers need to know about the "Party for Promises" fundraiser?
Party for Promises will offer an evening of live entertainment with the Swingin' Medallions, dinner, and spirits; all to benefit the children served by the Anne Elizabeth Shepherd Home & Twin Cedars.
Tell us about the mission and goals of the Anne Elizabeth Shepherd Home and Twin Cedars Youth & Family Services, Inc.
The Anne Elizabeth Shepherd Home serves young girls who have been physically and sexually abused. We work to rehabilitate these child victims by providing services ranging from basic necessities such as food, clothing and shelter, to on-site education and intense clinical therapy. Twin Cedars' mission is to provide programs and services empowering children, youth and families to achieve optimum potential. Each year Twin Cedars serves more than 12,000 at risk babies, children, teens, and families through 28 programs in Columbus, LaGrange, Macon and neighboring Opelika.
Besides attending the fundraiser on August 24, what are some ways women in the community can show their support and get involved?
In addition to attending Party for Promises, women in the community can make a difference in the lives of children by volunteering with several of our Columbus area programs. The Anne Elizabeth Shepherd Home Auxiliary members serve as mentors and coordinate special events and fundraisers to support the girls. Many people do not know that we operate and on-site school at the AESH. We actively seek tutors to help our girls recover lost credits and transition back to a public school setting. Our Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers advocate for children involved in juvenile court deprivation proceedings who have been removed from their homes through no fault of their own and placed in foster care. The Truancy Intervention Project, or TIP, recruits volunteers to serve as mentees for children in the Muscogee Co. School District who are identified as being truant.
Additionally, we seek interns who have completed study in the following areas: Health & Human Services, Criminal Justice, Public Relations and Communication Arts, Psychology, Social Work, Mental Health and Counseling.
What programs are offered by Twin Cedars Youth & Family Services, Inc.?

What are some future plans and goals for the organization? The Anne Elizabeth Shepherd Home has served as a safe haven for young girls dating back to 1845. While we no longer serve orphans, each night there are 40-50 young girls who sleep on a Twin Cedars pillow. Our future goals include increasing the membership of the Anne Elizabeth Shepherd Home Auxiliary, increasing public awareness of childhood and adolescent trauma and continuing to provide and homelike environment for children who may require residential treatment. The overall Twin Cedars vision is to become the leading provider of quality services for children, youth, families and communities.
