I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but "The Bachelor" is ruining your love life.
LiveScience summarizes recent study results regarding the impact of romantic TV: "The participants who had higher belief in TV romance were less likely to be committed to their current relationships and more likely to be drawn to alternatives to their current partner, the research found."
Even if you obsess over romantic TV, you aren't necessarily luckier in love. The aforementioned article notes that "those who fell for TV love stories reported being no less satisfied in love than their more skeptical peers."
So, what constitutes "romantic TV"? Glad you asked
Participants in the study apparently watched movies such as "The Notebook," "Sleepless in Seattle" and "Pretty Woman." Normal, right? Here's where things get weird. Romantic TV shows included "The Bachelor" and "The Hills."
Really?!? Those shows don't exactly scream "functional romantic relationships." If nothing else, I watch those shows to feel better about my sometimes-dysfunctional relationship.
