I posted a lot last night as I watched the Oscar telecast.
I liked Seth McFarlane. He is handsome, funny and can sing and dance. What more could you ask of a host?
I think he brought in some younger viewers.
I found this list of Oscar hosts and how they fared with viewership. It's interesting that David Letterman, who has been the most reviled host, actually ranks second. I thought he was fine. I'm guessing the Hollywood types don't really like to be made fun of in front of a huge audience.
Never miss a local story.
I thought Hugh Jackman fared better than he did. He was a terrific host.
I also think it's funny that the year there was no host, it came in ninth!
And where's Johnny Carson? Bob Hope? I'm guessing people didn't really watch a lot of TV in the 1960s-70s? But Hope and someone named Conrad Nagel is in 21st place and they did it in 1953.
Here's the list:1. Billy Crystal (1998): 57.3 million2. David Letterman (1995): 48.9 million3. Billy Crystal (2000): 46.5 million4. Whoopi Goldberg (1994): 46.3 million5. One of the highlights of the show for me was the dance number at the very beginning with Charlize Theron and Channing Tatum.
Of course, I was waiting to see if my Russell Crowe was there, and he was in the "Les Miserables" number with the rest of the cast. But why was he not presenting? He's a Best Actor winner.
And I am truly sick of Kristen Stewart. No one is making her do these appearances. She looks bored and irritated. She should be thrilled to be asked because she's a one-note actor. Sighs and hiccups and angst. After the "Twilight" phase dies out, she'll be forgotten.
As for the best-dressed woman? I really liked dresses worn by Jennifer Lawrence, Halle Berry, Naomi Watts, Charlize Theron, Zoe Saldana, Charlize Theron, Kerry Washington and Jane Fonda.
I thought Melissa McCarthy was a hot mess. And what was Brandi Glanville doing there? Her dress looked ill-fitting and it was cut way too low.
The larger ladies like Octavia Spencer and Queen Latifah looked fantastic. McCarthy should hire their stylists.
I know people thought Stacey Kiebler looked good, but I think she only looks good because of her ornament -- George Clooney.
Ah, well, that's over for the year.
