Sometimes our daily routine blinds us to what really matters. You know, like the "Baconalia!" menu at Denny’s. That’s right, folks: I’ve been blissfully unaware of the fact that it’s incredibly easy to secure a Maple Bacon Milk Shake.
For the uninitiated, "Baconalia!" is a limited-time menu at Denny's that includes offerings like a Maple Bacon Sundae, Bacon Pepper Jeck Tilapia and the aforementioned Maple Bacon Milk Shake. See the full list of offerings here.
This year's "Baconalia!" festivities apparently began in March, according to a news release.
But I only became aware of the bacon-filled glory this week. What can I say? I reserve Moons Over My Hammy breakfasts for special occasions.
Of course, it's hardly our first sampling of creative culinary concoctions involving bacon. By now, you've probably heard of bacon sundaes, bacon cookies and chocolate-covered bacon.
You've also probably heard arguments that bacon has jumped the shark. The articles started to surface a few years ago, when it seemed like everybody and their mother was proudly proclaiming that bacon makes everything taste better.
A Daily Beast piece from 2010 notes, "Bacon has always been in every supermarket and everyone knows how to cook it. And everywhere they look, chefs and restaurants are telling them it's the must-use ingredient. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy."
Even though bacon mania has skeptics, it's not exactly subsiding.
Baconfest Chicago will be held April 20. Other cities host similar festivals. And in addition to the "Baconalia!" excitement at Denny's, I'm sure many at-home cooks are still searching for The Next Great Bacon Thing.
