Jimmy Iovine, the mentor who last season compared one contestant's vocals to an "Ambien milkshake," is leaving "American Idol," according to a report from Deadline Hollywood.
Get this: The same report suggests former "Idol" judge Randy Jackson will take Jimmy's place as an in-house mentor on the show.
What do you think about the idea?
For starters, I'll miss Jimmy if he's really leaving the show. His comments were my favorite part of the otherwise drawn-out results shows. His memorable one-liners often made my job as a blogger much easier.
However, I think the mentor role on "Idol" needs to be redefined. Even though Jimmy spiced up the results shows, I didn't like the show's decision to air his comments after fan voting had occurred. I'd rather watch him directly argue with the judges on performance night.
And I think it's safe to assume few people are ecstatic about the continued presence of Randy Jackson. I just can't see him delivering the same wit that drew fans to Jimmy.
Do you agree, dawg?
