The Columbus Lions signed fullback Kendrick Perry, the team announced Tuesday.
Perry is the Professional Indoor Football League's all-time leader in rushing yards (711) and rushing touchdowns (26).
He played parts of the past four seasons with the Louisiana Swashbucklers, who no longer have a team in the league.
The Louisiana native played at Southeastern Louisiana.
"Kendrick has without a doubt been the best running back in our league over the past few seasons," Lions coach Jason Gibson said. "He is a serious upgrade to our backfield and should help elevate our red zone offense."
Perry said he know his role is different in a passing league.
"I just treat it like the outside game," he said. "I know it's a passing league, but when I do have the chance to carry the ball, it helps open up the passing game since most teams play a pass defense and then have to respect the running game."
The Lions' home opener is on April 5 against the Richmond Raiders.
