2 Negroes Injured In Americus Fray
Two young Negroes were struck, one by a snub-nosed revolver, as about 30 white men broke up a demonstration by an equal number of Negroes Saturday.
The Negro struck with the pistol was identified as Denny LeNow, 21, student at Midland College in Wisconsin. LeNow, working this summer with a voter registration group, was taken to a hospital bleeding from the head.
Mississippi's Selective Service director said Saturday he has asked the Justice Department to look into an appeal circulated by a militant civil rights group calling on Negro mothers to urge their sons to be draft dodgers.
The average daily cost for each hospital patient rose to an all time high of $45.58 in 1964, the American Hospital Associated reported Saturday.
The costs ranged from an average of $34.31 in the East South Central region which includes Alabama, Mississippi, Kentucky and Tennessee to $54.28 in the Pacific Coast region.
