The man accused of shooting a Harris County sheriff’s deputy during a Saturday traffic stop on Interstate 185 was denied bond during a hearing on Monday.

Joe Garrett, 24, of Phenix City was arrested in connection with the shooting after turning himself into police in Phenix City. A woman, Lytishia Horace, also has been arrested in the case.

On Monday, both suspects appeared before Harris County Judge Jennifer Webb, Harris County Sheriff Mike Jolley said. Garrett was denied bond and Horace’s bond was set at $10,000 for two felonies and $1,000 for one misdemeanor. Horace was not with Garrett at the time of the shooting, Jolley said, but she received text messages from him and helped him hide when he returned to Alabama.

Both suspects waived extradition from Alabama, Jolley said, and sheriff’s deputies picked them up on Monday. Garrett is being held in the Muscogee County Jail and Horace at the Harris County Jail.

Jolley said deputy Jamie White has been moved to a private room at Midtown Medical Center in Columbus after he was released from ICU on Monday. He said White is getting better every day but doctors expect he’ll have permanent injuries.

“We’re being told that he will lose sight in his left eye,” the sheriff said.

Jolley said deputies are still looking for two women who were in the car with Garrett at the time of the shooting.
