In a well-written letter, a writer wondered “why so dirty?” Corrupt politicians, corporate CEOs, finance fraudsters, etc. We became so corrupt that our democracy is now described as “The Best Democracy Money Can Buy.”
If you can’t pay, you can’t play and have no say. Even the judicial system favors those who can pay. The real game is “you scratch my back, and I’ll scratch your back.”
In the news, we have heard about a governor who wanted to sell a vacant Senate seat, a Wall Street firm founder swindling $50 billion, a governor put in prison for steering state business to cronies for bribes, an unsavory spectacle upstaged by New York Democrats to give a vacant Senate seat to John F. Kennedy’s daughter, etc. It’s because of powermongering, money-grubbing, selfishness and lack of faith.
Jesus Christ said unto the money changers: “It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.” The Bible also warns us: “If riches increase, set not your heart upon them.”
Two of the most notable factors for the collapse of past civilizations were political corruption and economic decline. A democratic, stable America is important not only for Americans but for the entire world. The director of the German Council on Foreign Relations said: “A world without American leadership is a world of chaos.” We don’t want our civilization to collapse.
National self-reflection, altruism and the awakening of the spirit of American patriotism are needed to avoid an apocalypse. I think it’s time for Americans to open their eyes and shout “enough is enough is enough.”
