The daily Iraqi violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It’s posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy’s Washington Bureau.
- Around noon on Thursday a suicide bomber attacked an Iraqi army training base in Habbaniyah (about 70 miles west of Baghdad). Iraqi authorities were in disagreement about the casualty count as of Thursday night. Police and hospital officials said 16 soldiers were killed and 50 others were wounded, but officials with the Iraqi army said none was killed, with 17 soldiers injured.

- A gunman threw a grenade at some policemen in Bab al-Tob neighborhood in downtown Mosul on Thursday. Three people were wounded.
- A parked car bomb detonated in the Shifaa neighborhood in western Mosul. It was targeting guards of the Badosh prison while they transferred some sick prisoners to be treated in the Shifaa Hospital on Thursday. Three guards were wounded.
- Gunmen opened fire on a police patrol in the New Mosul neighborhood in western Mosul on Thursday. One policeman was killed and another was wounded.
The Sahwa leader in old Baquba city was killed by an adhesive bomb that was stuck to his car. Four policemen were injured by the explosion which took place near the explosive departments in downtown Baquba city around 12 p.m.
