Bidness as usual
Welcome back for another installment of Weekend Picks – your source for meaningful advice and poor puns.
This weekend, enjoy all that Columbus’ downtown has to offer.
Start Friday with a visit to my favorite Columbus performer, Peggy Jenkins and the Bizness at 9:30 p.m. at The Loft, 1032 Broadway. Bring $5 to get in.
Never miss a local story.
Saturday morning, visit the seasonal market along Broadway, where you’ll find an array of breads, jams and trinkets. I suggest the banana-walnut bread, which harkens back to a simpler time.
Toss the simpler time out the window Saturday night when you escape this mundane existence with a couple of drinks at Belloo’s, 900 Front Ave. Females should dress in all black to avoid the cover. Supposedly, men will get in for free as well if they wear a black dress, though I haven’t yet attempted this.
Seems like a good weekend to try.
Go with the flow
Avoid the lure of "Supernanny" reruns Friday night and instead spend the night at H2O, 6499 Veterans Parkway. The 17th Floor, a Chicago-based hip-hop and R&B group, entertains. It's $5, free for ladies. 706-327-9700.
Saturday, indulge in some banana-walnut bread with Alan and then continue down Broadway to the box office of the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts. It's Single Ticket Saturday, when you can snag single tickets for shows in the RiverCenter's 2009-10 season. The event is 10 a.m.-3 p.m., and you can look forward to treats and activities outside.
Stay home Saturday night so you can save your money for a Sunday breakfast that moves beyond the comfort of the Egg McMuffin. I recommend the Sunday brunch buffet at La Margarita, 5300 Sidney Simons Blvd. It's 11:30-3 p.m. Wear a cute outfit and you might be serenaded by Big Saxy.
