One crazy summer
The season is winding down and next thing you know, it’ll be the autumn solstice, er, equinox. So, before the snow drifts and frightening blizzards force you indoors for six months, let’s have a little fun in the sun.
First, you have to check out Bikes on Broadway – a two-day event that can surprisingly be found on Broadway in downtown Columbus. Go Friday or Saturday, look at the hip bikes and buy a cool T-shirt, because, you know, all wannabe bikers wear cool shirts.
Also on either Friday or Saturday, get your shield and magic helmet and head down to the Goetchius House, 405 Broadway, for “The Tempest.” It’s at 8 p.m. and costs $12-15. Dinner and the show costs $45 and doesn’t include alcohol. Bring the flask.
Saturday, head over to either the Shanty Shack at 2 p.m. or SoHo at 3 p.m. for some old-fashioned poker. It’s been a while for me, and I need to rebuild my skills before heading off to Vegas.
Back in black
Good news for all you fans of monochromatic hues: Belloo's, 900 Front Ave., just expanded its Little Black Dress Night promotion to include Fridays and Saturdays. Hit the bar in a solid black dress on either of those nights, and you'll get in free. You'll also score a gift card for the bar.
Is the deal restricted to women in black dresses? Ask Alan.
Then, build a relationship with a new nightlife hangout: Pickle Barrel Cafe and Sports Pub, 2538 Airport Thruway. There's a great food menu, and plenty of tasty drinks.
Wrap up the weekend by watching the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards 9 p.m. Sunday on MTV. There's a lot of exciting things about the show, but I'm most looking forward to Lady Gaga's performance, which is supposed to "inspire a movement." Hopefully it will result in my boss letting me wear bubble wrap to work Monday.
