Ice, ice, baby
Word is, this weekend will be cold. In fact, as you’re reading this, there may be eight feet of snow outside your front door and no chance for you to get to Publix to buy all the available bread and milk.
If you can find that snow shovel and make it to your car, you should face the perils of salt-covered streets for the Friday Columbus Cottonmouths game at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12-22. Bring a coat. It’ll be chilly.
Saturday, escape from winter hibernation and attend Flip Flops' birthday bash. The party, which has a red carpet theme, features door prizes and a performance by Atlanta band Aclarion. A $5 cover starts at 11 p.m.
Finally, when the temperatures hopefully will climb above absolute zero, check out the starving artists art show, 11-4 p.m. Sunday at the Columbus Convention and Trade Center, at Front Avenue and Ninth Street. These guys may one day be Picassos. Might as well take advantage of their poverty now and get future priceless pieces of art for pennies.

While Alan's stocking up on rations, I'll be braving the breezy temperatures in my flip flops. After living in Wisconsin for four years, I think I've earned the right to roll my eyes when Southerners panic at mention of the "s" word.
Go ahead, wear a tank top to Friday's block party in downtown Columbus. One $10 cover gets you into the majority of Broadway bars. Hint: "Warm me up" is a great pickup line.
Saturday night, expand your culinary horizons with a dinner at the new restaurant below The Loft, 1032 Broadway. It serves entrees ranging from steak to seafood. Hours are 5-10 p.m.
Sunday, wrap up your weekend by hanging out with those crazy "Desperate Housewives" on ABC. Last week's episode was a bit of a letdown, but at least they kept Kyle MacLachlan around, right? The show starts at 9 p.m.
