I wanna start a fight
The weather has finally gotten to a reasonable level in C-town, which means winter is already on the way out. That can only mean one thing – my deep admiration for guys that roll around on the floor with other guys will shine through.
So what, I want to go see Mixed Martial Arts on Friday, wanna fight about it? Good. Then check out the event at 7:30 p.m. at the Columbus Civic Center. It’s $25-45 to get in, nothing to get sweat splashed on you if you sit too close.
Saturday, stop sitting inside your home huddled by the fire. Go downtown and check out Big Woody and the Splinters at Belloo’s, 900 Front Ave. It’s $5 to get in, though I hear if you wear a black dress you get some free drink coupons. I don’t think there’s a gender restriction on this. Why don’t you find out?
Never miss a local story.
Sunday, I intend to fulfill my deep-seated need for apocalyptic movie fare by checking out “The Book of Eli.” Because nothing says “fight” quite like big guns in a nuclear wasteland.
Let's stay together
Congratulations: You've made it to January's halfway mark without falling victim to National Breakup Month. That is, unless you're reading this while designing an elaborate love voodoo doll.
Barring that possibility, celebrate your thriving coupledom by partying Friday night at The Loft, 1032 Broadway. Live music from Peggy Jenkins and the Bizness starts at 9:30 p.m. Cover is $5.
Saturday, take a road trip to Opelika and enjoy a Cajun meal at Jimmy's, 104 South Eighth Street. Dinner is served 5:30-9:30 p.m. Call 334-745-2155.
Finally, wrap up the weekend by watching Sunday's Golden Globes. The show airs 8 p.m. on NBC. Print out a ballot from our awards site and show off your pop culture knowledge throughout the show.
