Pain and gain
What? It’s the weekend already? That’s right, reprobates, it’s time yet again for 48 hours of nonstop gardening, weeding, lawn watering and litter-box cleaning. If you get a chance after doing all that, you should check out the following:
At the Mix: Do I suggest people go to DJ Roonie G’s Ultra Mix Lounge far too often? Yes, mom, I know I do. But this is Roonie Tunes’ birthday weekend, and you've got to buy the guy a drink. Or yourself a drink, at his bar. The cover is $5 and doors open at 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Columbus comic con: It’s Columbus’ very own Comic Book Show. Check it out from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Coca-Cola Space Science Center on Sunday. It’s $4 to get in, a lifetime of shame to be seen there.
I like your kalimba
Put on your dancing shoes: It's time for another weekend of fun in Columbus. Worried about succumbing to another extended nap? Try these suggestions:
New sounds at Eighty-Five: The nightclub on Friday hosts performances by Kevin Spears and The Richard Smith Band. Spears is known for his skills on the kalimba, an instrument with African origins. Richard Alan Smith is a guitarist who appeared in "Ray" and also aided in the film's music. Show starts at 10 p.m. and tickets are $8. Eighty-Five is at 900 Front Ave., below Belloo's. 706-324-1500.
Cool stuff at The Loft: The hot spot hosts lots of shows this weekend. First up, Friday: Comedian Tim Wilson performs at 7 p.m., Allgood performs at 9 p.m. and Peggy Jenkins and the Bizness perform at 11 p.m. Cover is $5 for Peggy Jenkins, $10 for the other shows. On Saturday, Wilson has a comedy show at 7 p.m. and T3IO performs at 9:30 p.m. Cover is $10 for comedy show, $5 for T3IO. 706-596-8141.
Mindblender at Shanty Shack: The local party band performs 7-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Cover is $5 and the Shanty Shack is at 4475 Warm Springs Road. 706-507-3418.
