Run, run, you’d better run run
I hope everyone is ready, because this weekend is it. The final hour. The showcase showdown. Otherwise known as Country’s Midnight Run. Let’s get started:
Applause for Paws: Who can resist cute dogs wearing silly hats while doing tricks? Not you. That’s why you should grab $75 and head down to the RiverMill Event Center in Bibb City around 6:30 p.m. Friday for the Applause for Paws Benefit. The night will include a silent auction, some eats and, of course, dogs standing on their hind legs for your amusement.
Midnight Run: It is time! Join the thousands who run Columbus’ preeminent 5K this Saturday at midnight down at Country’s on Mercury Drive. Registration on Saturday costs $25, but you get a keen T-shirt and a sammich afterward, so it’s all good.
Never miss a local story.
Recovery: Maybe you don’t run that often. That means you’re going to be hurting a little bit on Sunday. That’s why you should kick back with a movie on a lazy Sunday. I suggest “The Expendables,” because there’s a governor who stars in it. Click here for local show times.
Exercise is overrated
Not everybody fantasizes about devouring a barbecue sandwich while covered in sweat. Fortunately, the weekend calendar isn't confined to running. Try these options:
Never Ending Pasta Bowl: Devour Olive Garden's limited-time offer while saying you're getting your necessary carb intake before a big race. The local Olive Garden is in Columbus Park Crossing.
The Worsties: You can't go wrong with a band known for a song called "Kitty Litter." The Nashville-based act reminds me of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. They perform at Eighty-Five in a Saturday show that also includes Today the Moon, Tomorrow the Sun. Action starts at 10 p.m. and cover is $5.
Primetime Emmy Awards: Root for your favorite TV stars during this year's ceremony, which airs 8 p.m. Sunday on NBC. Click here for live updates and fashion commentary throughout the show.
