Open for Bizness
So, it’s finally cool enough to go outside without melting yet it’s already cold enough that you dread getting out of bed in the morning. What’s a debutante to do?
Follow these three suggestions, reprobate:
Peggy Jenkins and the Bizness: It’s the last outdoor concert of the year on Broadway at 7 p.m. Friday. Don’t miss Peggy and her band rock the mike. Bring a camping chair, a warm jumper and maybe a quilt to keep yourself warm while drinking cold beer.
Porch crawl: Alternatively, you can do your drinking while milling about on strangers’ front porches. Check out the Historic District Preservation Society’s porch crawl, starting at 8 p.m. Friday at 627 Broadway. It’s $20 that you’ve got to pay at the first house, but you get drinks and eats. Enjoy.
5K for Jeremy: Cooler temperatures mean it is 5K season. Check out one of them this weekend at 9 a.m. Saturday up in Harris County. The Run for Jeremy is in honor Jeremy Williams, whose family was featured on “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” Proceeds benefit the Emory ALS Center in Atlanta. It starts at Harris County High School, 8281 Ga. 116. Bring $25 to register and get there early.

Aaron Blake Reynolds Memorial Run: This Saturday race raises money for the wrestling facility at Hardaway High School. Choose a 1-mile fun run, 5K or 10K. Cost is $10-$25. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., fun run at 8:45 a.m., 5K and 10K at 9 a.m. Saturday. It's at Hardaway High School, 2901 College Drive. Get more details here.
Columbus Day cookout: Don't have to work Monday? Local bar Pop-A-Top, 210 32nd Street, hosts a Columbus Day cookout Monday at 2 p.m. Expect free food and a dart tournament at 4 p.m. 706-323-9292.
