Hats, boots and Daisy Dukes
I know most of you are gearing up for just one big event this weekend, though I’ll keep with the pattern we’ve established here at Weekend Picks and give everyone three options from which to choose. That’s just how we roll down here at the L-E.
Elks Lodge: The fast pace of downtown is too much for someone of my delicate constitution to handle, which is why I prefer the soothing nature of the Elks Lodge on Friday nights. See what everyone is talking about at 8 p.m. Friday, 5768 Miller Court. It’s free to get in.
Steeplechase: Here it is – the annual running of the horses at Callaway Gardens where, for some reason, it’s OK to start drinking at 10 a.m. Wear your short skirts, your funny hats and your boots that you’ll unzip after 15 minutes because you’re too hot. Find it all by taking I-185 north to Exit 30, turn right and follow the signs. It costs anywhere from $25 to $800.
Never miss a local story.
Public ice skating: Cool down after a day of boozing it up by hitting the ice at the Columbus Civic Center on Sunday. Public ice skating is 2 – 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 – 6 p.m. on Sunday. Bring $10 for admission and skate rental.
Baby got badonkadonk
It's another weekend of quality entertainment in Columbus, and you don't want to be tardy for the party. Check out these highlights.
First Friday Block Party: Yep, it's that time again. One $10 cover gets you into the majority of Broadway hot spots on Friday night. Participating venues include draws like drink specials and live entertainment.
Trace Adkins at Fort Benning: Trace Adkins plays a free show for military ID card holders, DoD civilians and family members Friday night. Gates open at 6 p.m. Show is at 7 p.m. at Wetherby Field, Fort Benning. Details: 706-545-3328.
Real Housewives of Atlanta: The Bravo reality TV series moves to its new time slot (10 p.m. Sunday) this weekend. Wear your Kim wig and savor the drama.
