Until the 18th century, the color most often associated with St. Patrick was not emerald green, but blue.
Blue beer? That just doesn’t sound as good.
Here are some of the places in town you can find green beer, as well as other Irish drink specials, food and music.
Scruffy Murphy’s at 1037 Broadway will have live music from The Ragbirds on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The band plays a mix of folk rock and pop with Celtic and other world influences. During their three-night St. Patty’s day residency at Scruffy’s they’ll play songs from their fourth studio release, “Infectious Global Groove.”

The pub will have beer specials, including green beer. They will also serve lunch beginning at 11:30 a.m. Cover on St. Patrick’s Day is $7 in the evening and $5 Friday and Saturday. 706-322-3460. You can get Irish food for dinner at Downstairs at the Loft (1032 Broadway) beginning at 5 p.m.

The Loft at 1032 Broadway will have its regular comedy night at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m., followed by the band Whiskey Bent. They will have $3 beer specials and a variety of Irish drink specials. $5 cover charge. 706-596-8141.

Belloo’s, at 900 Front Ave. will have $5 Irish car bombs as well as a variety of shots, drink specials and green beer. Open at 5 p.m. 706-494-1584.
SoHo Bar and Grill, at 5751 Milgen Road will have two live bands, Star City Meltdown and Days Distance and serve Irish stew. Patrons who wear at kilt or dress in green will have the chance to win prizes. There will also be specialty drinks and party favors. 706-568-3316.
