If you haven’t seen the 2011 St. Jude Dream Home, you’ve only got a couple weekends to tour it before it’s raffled off on April 17.
The 4,095-square-foot, four bedroom house is located at 9456 Forest Crown Drive in the Ivy Park Community in Forston, Ga. Details include extensive wood flooring, granite counter tops, ceramic tile in wet areas and a Brizo faucet in the kitchen that is touch-activated.
“If your hands are messy you can just hit it with your elbow to turn it on and off,” said Caroline Hazelrig, event marketing representative for the St. Jude Atlanta Office.
This is one of the highlights during the weekend open houses, which are held 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays and noon-5 p.m. Sundays through April 10.
Never miss a local story.
Another notable highlight: each bedroom has its own attached bathroom.
Furniture donated by La-Z-Boy is set up in the living room and dining room; those who attend an open house can submit their name in a raffle for the furniture.
Hazelrig said this is one of the few Dream Houses that was built without a basement, but they’ve “upped the square footage in other areas of the house” and increased storage to supplement.
“We wanted to make it more family-friendly,” said Hazelrig. “I feel like this is one of the best family entertaining houses we have because the kitchen is so big and all the rooms are so big and inviting and welcoming.”
Hazelrig said ticket sales are currently ahead of last year, but there are still some available for purchase. April 15 is the deadline to buy the $100 tickets at Columbus Wells Fargo and Action Buildings and Truck Styles locations. Tickets will also be available during the live special on the day of the drawing.
As an extra incentive to buy early, Hazelrig said that those who buy their tickets by tomorrow will be entered into a bonus drawing to win a $2,500 gift card to Resort Quest.
If the idea of winning a house is a bit intimidating, St. Jude is offering another option: if your ticket is drawn for the grand prize, you can choose $100,000 cash (before taxes) instead.
“If they don’t want the house, you’re still supporting the kids no matter what, but they have another option,” said Hazelrig.
The St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway winner will be drawn during a live televised special, noon-2:30 p.m. April 17 on WTVM. There will be 15 other prizes given away to ticket holders leading up to the main event.
