Once again, St. Francis Hospital is offering SafetyCab. And once again, the free transportation service won’t take you to a party.
Listen up, nightlife fans: If you call SafetyCab while intoxicated, you’ll get a ride home.
Got it? Good. Now, take note of the SafetyCab number: 706-660-6069.
“We’re trying to provide a community service,” said Jessica Pate, communications specialist and SafetyCab coordinator for St. Francis Hospital. “Put the number in your cell phone.”
Party goers should designate a sober driver before hitting the town. But if that scenario falls through, SafetyCab is a good backup plan.
SafetyCab, which kicked off last weekend, is available 9 p.m.-2 a.m. through Dec. 31. The service is open to drinking drivers in Columbus, Phenix City and Fort Benning. You’ll receive a free ride home from parties, restaurants and bars.
Your cab won’t show up immediately. Yet Pate said wait times are generally manageable, which hardly seems like an inconvenience when you remember the risks associated with drunk driving.
Pate encourages people hosting holiday parties to tell their guests about the service. If you’d like SafetyCab information to distribute at your party, call Pate at 706-320-2759.
