Lick Skillet, Normal and and Slick Lizard, Ala., are among the weirdest named places in the state, according to one reporter.
AL.com reporter Kelly Kazek has compiled a list of Alabama's 13 most unusual town names . "In most cases, these oddly named places are little more than spots in the road, unincorporated areas with nicknames that stuck," Kazek wrote.
Her top five are:
1. Boar Tush
2. The Bottle
3. Burnt Corn
4. Frog Eye
My favorite on the list is all the way at No. 13: Smut Eye, Ala., so-named for a blacksmith’s shop which served a "homemade ale that the local women called the devil's brew,” according to a 1999 Montgomery Advertiser story.
