The Mind, Body and Soul Retreat Women's Health Fair on Saturday will offer much more than the usual screenings.
The free event, sponsored by Girls Inc., for females ages 15-100 will be 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the organization's Baker Center on Levy Road in Columbus.
Co-sponsor South Columbus United Methodist Church will provide music.
Valerie Boggs, fund development director for Girls Inc. said, "After a few days of snow, people should be ready for something like this which is going to be entertaining as well as informative."
Health exams by volunteer health professionals include bone density, blood pressure, HIV, and breast.
Topics of workshops include eating healthy, domestic violence, alcohol/drug abuse, and exercise tips.
Lunch will be served and entertainment will be provided by members of Girls Inc. There will be demonstrations of rope jumping, cup stacking and step dancing.
Leading the event will be obstetrician/gynecologist Kamesha Fair and registered nurse Skitch Danielson. The two will give a talk about "Taking Ownership of Your Body."
"This health fair retreat will focus on wellness which includes the balance between mind, body and soul," Boggs said. "The retreat is geared to revive women and help restore balance to their lives by providing personal growth through healthy management, fitness, education, relaxation and entertainment. Maintaining a healthy mind and body is critical for our physical and mental well being."
Boggs said she hopes the event will lead to some women getting the regular health checkups.
