“Hearts for Haiti” will bring together two churches — one black and one white — in song Sunday night to raise money for the country hit Jan. 12 by a 7.0-scale earthquake.
Allen Temple AME Church and Wynnton United Methodist Church are co-sponsoring the event at Wynnton.
“A group of folks from Wynnton and Allen Temple have been dialoguing about how we could do some things together,” said the Rev. Wayland Conner of Allen Temple. He said the idea for the Haiti fundraiser came from the Rev. Mike Ricker of Wynnton.
The concert will feature the Wynnton adult choir, the Allen Temple choir and praise dancers from Allen Temple. An offering will be taken.
Never miss a local story.
Both Conner and Ricker will give brief remarks. The program should last about an hour.
The churches are in close proximity. Wynnton UMC is on Wynnton Road and Allen Temple is on Washington Avenue, in nearby Carver Heights. A reception will follow the concert Sunday. The event begins at 6 p.m.
Following the earthquake, 3 million people in Haiti needed emergency aid. The quake sent 33 aftershocks ranging in magnitude from 4.2 to 5.9. Call 706-324-2424 for more information.
